Ole Miss. slides past long time rival Miss. State in the Egg Bowl after Miss. State loses quarterback Nick Fitzgerald to injury early in the game. The bitter rivalry between Ole Miss. and Miss. State has become an important part of the football culture in Mississippi as these two teams maintain a love-hate relationship; fighting for bragging rights each time they face off. As Ole Miss set the pace for the first three quarters of the game, Miss. State showed us what they were made of in the fourth quarter as they scored 22 of their 28 points, having only scored six points in the first half. As Miss. State struggled to stay in the ball game they managed to remain a threat due to the effort from Miss. State backup QB KeytaonThompson and RB's Hill and Williams; who ran for a combined 278 yards.

While Miss. State had to regroup after the lost of Fitzgerald, Ole Miss. QB Ta'amu (10/22, 247 YDS, 2 TD, INT) took advantage of the opportunity to put a dent in the Miss.State defense with help from his wideouts with the help of A.J. Brown (6 REC, 168 YDS, 1 TD) and D.K. Metkalf (2 REC, 67 YDS, 1 TD). As Ole Miss. managed to come out on top, there is no question that this seemingly easy win was the result of Miss. State losing star QB Fitzgerald early in the game; leaving the remainder of the battle in the hands of QB Thompson (13/27, 195 YDS, 1 TD, INT). As both teams taunted each other and engaged in a few scuffles before and during the game, neither side got out of hand as both teams showed maturity under intense circumstances.

Even though the Egg Bowl holds the reputation as a vicious rivalry between these two Mississippi teams, Ole Miss. showed nothing but respect for the injured Fitzgerald who went down in the first quarter after injuring his ankle, ending his season early.
